Facebook users are currently unable to post a status to its platform.
Attempts to post a new status result in the error message: "There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes.".
Similarly, a large bulk of AJAX options and interactions on Facebook are suffering the same problems; promoting posts, promoting pages, posting photos, liking posts, liking photos, sharing content in groups or from external websites; are also resulting in a similar issue.
At the moment, Facebook hasn't commented on the problem though the impact is on a global scale with many users turning to Twitter.
Exponential Increase in Errors
Update #1 - According to the Platform Status, they're currently experience a global exponentially increasing volume of errors and slowly increasing response times on the Facebook Graph.
We contacted Facebook for an update on the situation and a spokesperson for Facebook told us that they are "currently looking into the reported issues".
Update #2 - After reloading our Facebook, the news ticker panel on the right has disappeared with alleged reports that if you sign out of Facebook, you won't be able to sign in. Also, Facebook's algorithm seems to be displaying much older stories on our timelines.
Update #3 - We've just posted a status to Facebook and it went through. Have Facebook potentially patched whatever caused the issue?
Update #4 - Facebook's platform status graphs are showing a decrease in the number of errors, with posts and likes slowly starting to be processed and go through correctly. Still no word from Facebook on the cause of the issue.
Update #5 - It looks as though normal functionality is starting to pick up again on Facebook with status updates / likes slowly going through as of 16:05 GMT. The platform status currently shows the number of errors steadily reducing.
Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100 per cent. We're sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused.
