Microsoft has taken another step forward against Apple by announcing a new offer that lets owners of an iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S to trade their devices in for a minimum of $200 at the Microsoft store.
The new iPhone 5S and 5C are breaking sales records for Apple though not everyone is convinced on the device’s new fingerprint scanner and the iOS 7 operating system. Microsoft are hoping this will sway more users to different phones with the promise of something new: a Windows Phone 8 device, perhaps?
Microsoft iPad-Surface Trade
The latest deal by Microsoft is almost identical to an earlier promotion launched by Microsoft that allowed iPad owners to trade in their tablets for a girt card redeemable on the Microsoft stores, and now they're moving onto the iPhone market in a hope to scoop up more customers that aren't quite satisfied with the latest iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.
Microsoft’s strategy to offer old iPhone owners this deal so soon after the launch of the iPhone 5S and 5C is a decidedly bold move, which is much less compelling than the offer to trade in an older iPad for a new Microsoft Surface tablet. The latest chain of offers shows that Microsoft is serious about increasing its share in the smartphone market.
Anyone Who's Ready
Microsoft’s online campaign unlike its running iPad and iPhone campaign limited to only U.S. and Canada Microsoft stores has been made open to “anyone that’s ready to trade up to an amazing new Microsoft device.”
Under the iPad promotion program, which will go on till October 27, users can turn in an Apple iPad 2, iPad 3, or iPad 4 in exchange for a gift card, which can be used to either buy a Windows Phone or some other product from Microsoft.
